I am going to be upfront and honest: I think checking-in to locations via Foursquare or Yelp and advertising where you are and what you are doing is a bit ridiculous. I dislike reading “so-and-so checked-in at Happy Yogurt Fun Time” on my social media feeds and, I admit, sometimes I want to be at Happy Yogurt Fun Time and I get jealous that so-and-so is there and I’m at work/the dentist/somewhere not happy, fun or yogurt-filled.

Despite all of that, Foursquare and Yelp check-ins are a must for Vegas.

That’s right… a must. Here is why:

It will save you money/get you free stuff. I know you know about the check-in specials on Foursquare and Yelp, but what you may not know is that they are EVERYWHERE in Vegas.

I decided to see how good the deals are the other night while at the Monte Carlo and when I checked-in (via Foursquare) to the resort itself I got happy hour pricing at all the pubs/bars and it happens every time I check in. Happy hour pricing all the time? That is a deal. I then checked-in to Dragon Noodle, the Chinese joint in the resort, and received a free California Roll with any check over $20 (easily done). This deal is only valid after 5 pm but still worth it.

Now that is just two check-ins. I know for a fact the Caesar’s properties do check-in specials and I know that Yelp is working with the properties on the strip to add check-in specials as well.

So, while I dislike the constant stream of check-ins on my social media streams (did you know you don’t have to post that? Just a friendly tip) I think both Yelp and Foursquare are a necessary addition to your Vegas arsenal.

I plan on updating this post with more check-in specials, but, gentle reader, if you come across one, leave a note in the comments and we’ll start to compile a master list!
